Why shopping in plus size is better for your body shape

Why shopping in plus size is better for your body shape

Navigating women’s clothing is no easy task no matter what size you are. Sometimes it feels like all different brands’ dimensions run differently, so it’s hard to tie down what your size is. That’s a big reason why so many women stray away from online shopping. Luckily, Monroe and Main makes buying clothes easy with a guide to how to find your measurements. And yet have you ever felt like an article of clothing just doesn’t fit right? Well, that could be because it’s not that you’re getting the wrong size, but that you’re shopping in the wrong department. Here are some reasons why you should be shopping in plus size: Clothing is better tailored Have you ever found yourself in between sizes? The medium is too small but the large is too big. That’s because clothing isn’t made to fit all women’s shapes; it’s made to fit a very specific woman. Take, for instance, a pair of shorts in the regular women’s department. A size up will only make the shorts bigger on the waistline – not necessarily the length. This can make things difficult for taller ladies. On the other hand, plus-size clothing is made specifically for a curvier figure, which means every measurement is modified. If you go a size up in a shirt, the bust, width, length, etc., will all be adjusted. That’s because real women’s bodies are all different, and plus-size clothing designers take that into account. Jeans fit better Let’s face it – jeans can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. For some women, denim is a must-have item in their wardrobe. Jeans can be dressed up or dressed down. However, finding the perfect pair of jeans is no easy feat. But thanks to Monroe and Main, shopping can be a breeze. Our denim fits all body types like a glove, no matter if you’re looking for bootcut, skinny, distressed or even colored jeans. The best part about plus-size denim is that it is made with every woman’s body shape in mind. The jeans are meant to be slimming and stylish for the perfect fit. That way, you’re the one wearing the jeans, not the other way around! Plus-size denim lets you be your most confident self. Shirt lengths are just right Ever since the crop top took over the fashion industry, it feels like shirts are getting shorter and shorter. Sure, these shirts may look great on someone in his or her teens, but the truth is that longer shirts are much more versatile. Plus-size shirts are the length they’re supposed to be. You’re no longer going to have to pair tops with a tank underneath to make sure it covers the top of your jeans. Plus-size shirts are made with materials that fit women to showcase their curves, not hide them! Size and style are made to complement each other Plus sizes go beyond simply style and size. Clothes are made for plus-size women, and it shows. From feminine and flowy dresses to asymmetrical skirts, these frocks are made not only to look good but to…

Three Ways To Level Up Your Summer Style With Plus-Size Swimsuit CoverUps

Three Ways To Level Up Your Summer Style With Plus-Size Swimsuit CoverUps

One of my favorite things about great plus-size swimwear is it’s versatility! From boldly colored one-pieces to chic printed tankinis, swimwear is as much about creating a style moment as it is about going swimming. Summer is the perfect opportunity to get creative with your swimsuits and show-off your personal style. And a fabulous plus-size swimsuit cover-up can take your favorite swimsuit from “that’s looks nice on you” to “WOW.” Aside from being a practical way to conceal the goods as you make your way to the water, cover-ups give a whole new sense of purpose to the swimsuit. You don’t have to wait for white sandy beaches or turquoise waters to make a statement in your plus-size swimwear. With some simple cover-up styles and the bold chic pieces on yasminscloth.com you can wear your favorite swimsuit just about anywhere this summer. Here’s how to do it! The Long And Short Of It All Shorts are a classic coverup choice and an easy way to take your swimsuit to the next level. These french terry lounge shorts have a sporty vibe with their relaxed fit and drawstring waist—they pair easily with chunky sandals or sneakers. This outfit is casual and just the right combo for a jog or walk down the beach before cooling off in the water. If your day plans are more along the lines of styling and profiling down the boardwalk or if you’re foregoing the water all together and just want to take your new suit out for a spin, plus-size denim shorts complement any piece. High-waisted jean shorts will highlight the chic print of your bikini top. Going out at night? Try a white short styled with the Andie Swim Malibu One-Piece and wedges or heels. Trust me, no one will care that your ribbed “top” is really a swimsuit when they see you looking that good. Going With The Flow Skirts sometimes get overlooked as swimsuit cover-ups and I am just not sure why. I bought a stunning, gold multiway suit that tied into any style, I couldn’t bear to ruin it with salt water or chlorine. So, I popped on my favorite floral pencil skirt, some wedge sandals and hit the dance floor- back in the day when going out dancing was a thing. The point is, skirts are a worthy plus-size cover up especially a gloriously flowy printed wrap skirt like this. It effortlessly creates an eye-catching outfit and slips on and off in T-minus 2 seconds (pssst, this is a faux wrap-you’re welcome). For a more casual look swap out the printed wrap for a fringed hem plus-size denim skirt and strappy flat sandals. Trend Or Bust! Trend seekers already know that an oversized button-down shirt is a must-have this season and it works as a swim cover-up, too. These breezy shirt dresses have been all over the fashion space for spring/summer 2021 from the runways of Valentino to the yasminscloth.com (yes we’ve got them, too!). Easy styling at its best, you don’t have to worry about coordinating colors with your swimsuit. You can throw this piece on over any swimsuit style with heeled sandals or slippers for a…

What’s The Deal with Plus Sizes versus Extended Sizes?

What’s The Deal with Plus Sizes versus Extended Sizes?

At yasminscloth.com, our mission has always been to provide the most accurate and inclusive fits for sizes 10-32 and we only work with brands who do the same. The plus-size fashion scene has changed rapidly over the last year! Major brands making clothes for curvy women like Catherines and Lane Bryant have closed hundreds of stores across the country. And as the exclusively plus-size options dwindle, more and more brands are offering extended plus-size clothing and embracing inclusive sizing. While fashion is still far from fully representing all body types, I speak for my inner plus-size teenager who longed for fashionable clothes in her size, when I say this is a promising development for anyone who wears a size 12+ in women’s clothes.  But let’s keep it real, what we, the plus-size shoppers, really want to know is, will these chic and curvy extended sizing pieces actually fit correctly? There can be a significant difference in fit between “plus-sizing” and “extended-sizing”—I know this from experience—and the added complexity of each brand having different size ranges. It’s not uncommon to wear a size 14 in one brand and an 18 in another.  At yasminscloth.com, our mission has always been to provide the most accurate and inclusive fits for sizes 10-32 and we only work with brands who do the same. But, with all of this to consider, it can be hard to know what to expect when you shop online. So, for all my curvy women navigating this new fashion world—here’s how the cookie crumbles!Clothes are made to fit as many bodies as possible, and though we know that every body is created equitably, they are not created the same. The Truth About Size Get ready for some juicy industry knowledge here—all clothes are made based on a system of body measurements and sometimes the difference between sizes is just a matter of about 1 or 2 inches. Designers start with a sample size, usually an 8 in straight sizes and an 18 in plus. Based on these sample garments all other sizes are created by adding or subtracting a few inches of fabric. This is also known as grading.  This means that grading a size 8 sample up to a 18 leaves tons of room for fit error when it comes to curating curvy fashion. There is no way to account for the difference in weight distribution on fuller figures. In plus sizing however, a curvier body is used to create the sample, achieving a fit that is more accommodating to a curvy figure even as it is graded up or down in size. It’s the reason you might wear an 18 at yasminscloth.com and a 22 at another brand that has extended into plus-size. Even a size 10 with a curvier figure will find a better fit when clothes are crafted with their shape in mind. Companies that really want to serve the plus-size customer, like us, will keep this in mind when extending sizing, and brands that don’t are pretty easy to sniff out—nothing will fit well. Been there,…

Your Guide to Plus Size Dresses for Women

Your Guide to Plus Size Dresses for Women

Every woman deserves to have a fabulous dress that makes her feel beautiful. While both women and dresses come in all sizes and shapes, some plus size dresses for women are complementary to certain figures while others can be trickier to pull off. To help you find the frock that best complements your shape, we’re breaking down the four classic dress silhouettes. Most often, you’ll find that the dress silhouette that works best for you is the one that mirrors your body shape, but remember that while this guide is here to help guide you, each body is unique, and every dress fits differently. Ultimately, the dress you feel incredible in is the right dress for you—regardless of the shape. A-line dresses make the shape of the letter “A”,  flaring out gradually from top to bottom. Unlike a plus size fit-and-flare dress that often uses pleats or a defined waistline to create a voluminous skirt, the flare on A-line dresses like the Katie A-Line Dress is more subtle. Often, A-line dresses come with or are styled with a belt to create more of a fit-and-flare silhouette and draw attention to the waistline. Body Types Complemented by A-line Dresses: Hourglass ShapeIf you have a full bust and full hips, you may enjoy belting an A-line dress to emphasize your curves and highlight your waistline.Top-Heavy or Straight ShapeThis feminine silhouette will give the illusion of fuller hips, even if you don’t have them. The fuller skirt will balance out your top and bottom.Bottom-Heavy ShapeA-line dresses can complement bottom-heavy shapes quite well, you just want to ensure that you find the right fit. If you wear a smaller size on top, that’s likely the size you want for your A-line dress, as one in your bottom size will likely be too big for you. Shift dresses are an uncomplicated, straight silhouette. There is no flare beginning at the waist, no pleats, and no gathering. The width of the dress is the same at the knee as it is at the bust. Shift dresses like the Rosanna Halter Dress have a boxy fit, and generally, glide over your curves without drawing attention to your bust or hips. Shift dresses are often short, and therefore highlight your legs. Many plus size casual dresses fall into this category. In the fall, try this silhouette with a knit plus size cowl neck dress. Body Types Complemented By Shift Dresses: Top-Heavy ShapeIf you are top-heavy, you might enjoy showing off your legs and that is exactly what shift dresses let you do. Often hitting at or above the knee, shift dresses glide over your bust, tummy, and hips and highlight those gorgeous gams.Hourglass ShapeProvided you don’t want to flaunt your waistline, shift dresses can look gorgeous on hourglass figures. While shifts don’t emphasize your curves, they will fit your top and bottom the same as long as your bust is in proportion to your hips. You can add some extra flair to your outfit by finding this silhouette in a plus size ruffle dress.Straight ShapeIf your bust, hips, and midsection are…
